Personality Disorders

Personality dysfunction involves long-standing patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that can create challenges in relationships, work, and daily life. These patterns often develop early in life and can feel deeply ingrained, making change seem overwhelming. While these struggles can be intense, they are not fixed, and meaningful change is possible with the right support. In my practice, I am trained in and offer well researched approaches for treating personality dysfunction, including:

- Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP)
- Schema Therapy

These therapies go beyond surface-level coping strategies, to address the deeper patterns and emotional wounds that result in personality dysfunction. After an initial assessment I will determine which approach is most suited for you, and propose a treatment plan. While the goal of these treatments is ambitious; to change deeply rooted, long term personalty functioning (which has often been ingrained over many years) multiple research studies have found these two approaches to be highly effective. It is however important to understand that changing deep-seated patterns takes time and commitment. Unlike short-term supportive therapy for acute concerns, that often focuses on immediate symptom reduction, working through the root causes of relational and emotional difficulties is a longer term process that typically requires regular therapy over the course of a few years. While this may sound like a significant investment, the benefits of treatment can involve a long term positive impact on various life areas, including, relationships, work and self-regulation.

My clinical experience has involved working with personality dysfunction across a range of personality styles, including:
